Depicting Nudity through Art
Art is the product of carefully arranging various elements to affect the viewer's senses or feelings. It covers a wide range of activities, creations, and methods of expression including music, literature, film, painting, and sculpture. Hence, there is no better depiction of nudity than through various art forms.
A few centuries ago, nudity in art basically reflected the prevailing social standards through painting, sculpture and, in recent times, photography. Since ages past, the nude body of a human being has been a major subject of art. For this reason, one may see many different artworks with such a theme.
In some countries, nude art is allowed as long as it within the bounds of certain standards. This is because there is a thin line between art and pornography, and these rules are set in order to place a marker between the two. In addition, it is to avoid any conflict between religious entities. For example, the Roman Catholic Church demanded to have sculptures and paintings showing private body parts to be covered with fig leaves.
Today, nudity has become a famous genre of representational art, which includes painting, photography, and sculpture. It usually depicts people without any clothes on in an artistic manner. Nevertheless, nudity in art is more socially acceptable than having real people go naked in public. Partial or full nudity may be tolerated by modern media to be used in advertising as well as in films to draw attention to the advertisement. However, images do not usually have full frontal exposure, wherein the genitalia can be seen by viewers. This is because it is carefully done or is controlled to avoid giving the impression that the advert or the company advertising it is indecent or immoral.
