A giclee is a fine art print produced on a computer-generated printer of extreme high quality. The inks used are fade-resistant archival inks (pigment and solvent-based). The original artwork is either scanned or photographed using top-quality professional equipment. In other words, it’s a long way from most of our home printers!
Giclees can be printed on a variety of materials. They might be prints on canvas or on paper. The giclee is an affordable way to own art work without having to stretch to the original. It’s also a way for more people to enjoy the same art.
By the way, this is how we pronounce Giclee: ‘jee-clay’ – there should really be an acute accent on the first e – but I don’t know where it is on my keyboard!
