The Heart – More than just a Sentimental Symbol
The ever-popular symbol of the heart is now extremely commonplace – aside from getting used and abused all over the Internet. What’s it all about though? Why this current fixation on the heart? By men as well as women. Is it purely a sentimental sign of romance and/or friendship?
I have given the matter considerable though over the past few years – and have at various times explored aspects of the symbolic heart – that heart thet means so much to us. I’ve decided to bring these ideas together in a series of articles on this website, which I hope you will find thought-provoking.
I am particularly interested in the deeper nature of the heart as a symbol. Call it spiritual if you like – but that doesn’t really specify it. It’s more about life – and how we live it, I suppose. It’s about love – and how we perceive it. About how we engage with each other on this ever-shrinking little planet. Yes – it’s still a big wide world – but so much more intimate these days – don’t you think? With easy travel, split-second communication, multiple conversations through texting, facebook, email, etc.
So what was once the realm of a romantic notion between two people, or maybe some kind of religious fervour for God, has taken on new meaning, in consideration of the human race as a whole. It’s One Love – init bro? And One Love - despite all the encumbent and intricate complications, intrigues, deceptions, divisions, and misgivings – is definitely here to stay.
The symbolic heart is not complicated. Neither is the understanding of the heart. But typically, as humans we also like to try to get our head around things – or at least some of us. I confess to being one of those who do. So this is what my series of Heart articles is about – trying to get our heads around something that probably doesn’t require it – but somehow does until it doesn’t. If you know what I mean? I think you might. If you like, they are my personal explorations into matters of the heart. I hope you might find them useful in your own exploration.
I’m listing some of the articles below here on this page. You’ll find all the topics under the main heading ‘Heart’ up in the top menu of the page. The whole site is a very ongoing organic process, and I’m always pleased when others join in with their comments. So please, feel free to talk from your heart.
